We saw it all
As the title may suggest we saw it all: racist slurs, red cards, goals, controversial comments after the game. Arguably this is a match to be easily forgotten regarding the on-pitch display but it is important for other problems which need to be resolved.
After Inter failed to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League many people called for the head of coach Luciano Spalletti. Even before he took over as Inter coach, many were sceptical about his abilities to lead a team as his failures to lead a team to titles were well observed. Despite not being a particularly interesting match, Inter was the better team as they had more opportunities to score.
Last minute goal
In the end, they managed to pull off a win by an extra time goal by Lautaro Martinez. Undoubtedly, they were helped by the sending off of Khalidou Koulibaly, who was visibly nervous the whole match. With this win, Inter managed to snap a 5 game winless streak and grab 3 valuable points which pulled them within 5 points of their opponents. Napoli, on the other hand, failed to capitalize on a rare opportunity to reduce the gap between the Old Lady and themselves.
Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti was not happy after the match and lashed out against the officials and FIGC itself in an argument that has merit. Italian football has been stained by racists comments for ages and Ancelotti is not wrong in his comments, but those things didn’t affect the score itself. His team didn’t play up to par and have only themselves to blame. This rivalry will be an interesting one to observe for the rest of the season since both of them claim to want the title, but realistically they will battle for the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
